Books for the Practical Historian

About

Potboiler Press has been around since 1985, having gotten started as a travelling bookseller in the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA), mostly in and around Missouri with annual trips to western Pennsylvania. We're now settled down in a small town northwest of Columbia, Missouri, and have finally gotten around to joining the Information Age with this website

We mostly specialize in new books covering "practical archaeology" of medieval Europe (loosely speaking, recreating the physical artifacts used by people who lived hundreds of years ago) - armour making, sword and knife forging, medieval cookery, heraldry, embroidery, textiles, calligraphy, illumination, juggling....

We also sell used books, currently emphasizing calligraphy, illumination, some facsimiles, and book arts (bookbinding, papermaking, typography, printing presses, and so forth) from the invention of writing up through today.

Enquiries always welcome on books not in our catalog, of course; we would be happy to accept suggestions on stock you think we should carry.
